We all think the summer is the best time to lose weight, but the truth is, if you can pass on the desire to eat that dessert here and there during the holidays, you are halfway through the battle of losing weight.

This way, little by little, your mind becomes stronger, and by next summer you will weigh what you want!

We gathered a list of steps you can do get through the holidays! If you follow these 7 tips, the pounds will drop off you!

1. Eat Consciously

If you spend more time at home because of the holidays, your mind will try to trick you into eating either more because you are bored, or to eat unhealthy foods. Don’t fall for those traps.

With the help of tracking apps, you can easily get an overview of your calorie consumption. This way you know exactly whether you can still have that slice of cheesecake in the evening.

If you’ve been doing a specific diet, don’t throw it all out because your bored at home. You still need to be aware of what you eat!

Write down all the foods you eat throughout the day in the form of a food diary. Also see how they affect your well-being.

2. Realistic Expectations

Fight the battle against excess pounds: You start a diet highly motivated, only to lie in bed hungover and full of food on New Year's Eve? For many of us, the new year starts with a bad feeling!

Make it clear to yourself that losing weight is basically a long-term undertaking and that hard crash diets are not healthy. By eating consciously from now on, you can plan your diet and prepare for special occasions like Christmas or New Year's Eve.

3. Increase Protein Intake

Proteins are the building blocks for your muscles and super satiating. With an increased protein intake, you can get through the day satiated with fewer calories.

To lose weight during the holidays, you can, for example, double the otherwise recommended amount of protein - 0.8 g per kg weight - for one week.

Reduce your carbohydrates according to common low-carb diets. Great sources of protein are lean meat, fish, legumes, or eggs. But you still don't have to give up carbohydrates.

4. Avoid Sugar and Alcohols!

A glass of wine on the weekend or a piece of your beloved nut chocolate won’t hurt. You will still lose weight during the holidays! But you should limit sugar and alcohol, especially when losing weight at this time of the year. Both inhibit your fat burning and contribute almost nothing to a complete diet.

5. Drinking plenty of fluids is the key to your diet!

We often forget to drink water regularly in our daily lives. You should drink 2 liters of water every day in any case. Especially when losing weight, water becomes your faithful companion.

Too often we confuse hunger with thirst and quickly reach into the cookie jar. A glass of water is usually enough to combat the feeling of hunger.
