What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation, or vaginoplasty, is a surgical procedure that tightens the inside of the vaginal canal and its opening. Performed for both cosmetic and functional reasons, vaginal rejuvenation can help with vaginal muscle tone, strength, and control.
Why Have Vaginal Rejuvenation?
The two most common reasons women have vaginal rejuvenation are to help with pelvic relaxation and to improve their sexual function.
Pelvic relaxation occurs when the supportive muscles of the pelvic floor become too weak, and the pelvic floor sags into the wall of the vagina. This can lead to incontinence, pain in the abdomen, bladder infections, and more. Many women suffer from symptoms related to pelvic relaxation, especially after childbirth.
Vaginal rejuvenation can also be used to enhance sexual function by tightening the vaginal canal and opening, allowing for more friction and sensation during sexual intercourse.
Other reasons to consider vaginal rejuvenation include:
Difficulty keeping tampons in
Scar tissue around the vaginal opening
Difficult bowel movements
What Does a Vaginal Rejuvenation Entail?
There are two different approaches to vaginal rejuvenation - surgical and non-surgical.
Surgical vaginal rejuvenation is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 1-2 hours to complete. The inner and outer muscles are tightened, and patients will notice a significant difference in both feel and function.
Non-surgical rejuvenation is performed with a radio frequency device in-office. The procedure typically takes less than 30 minutes, and is used in cases where women want less drastic results or who are experiencing milder symptoms of pelvic relaxation. While you will see results after one treatment, most women require several follow up treatments for the best results.

Recovering After Vaginal Rejuvenation
Non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation requires little to no downtime and patients can walk out of the office after completing the procedure. Surgical rejuvenation, on the other hand, may take up to 8 weeks to fully heal. Patients may feel a deep ache or pain in their lower abdomen during the first week or two, and it’s recommended that they abstain from using tampons or engaging in sexual activity until fully healed.
